PRAKTIKUM
(tergantung masing-masing negara tuan rumah), so I recommend checking
tobi.or.id ketika sudah mau OSN. Tapi, yang pasti setiap tahun bakal ada 4 topik yang berbeda, which usually includes bioselmol, animal physiology, anatomy and/or systematics, plants physiology, anatomy and/or systematics and some other random topic (but still within IBO syllabus, which you can easily check on its website).
What’s tested is usually pretty routine (at least untuk tingkat nasional). Untuk
bioselmol, coba latihan atau setidaknya baca cara penggunaan mikropipet, cara
kerja PCR, elektroforesis, restrictive enzyme, blotting and so on. We don’t
expect you to know much about this since this topic is uncommon to most high
school students, but we do assume you know at least the stuff that is CAMPBELL!
sejenisnya selesai, kamu disuguhkan soal teori.
Mikrobio
I suggest you practice making dissections
and also memorized important structures like floem bentuknya gimana, jenisnya
ada apa aja, itu batang monokot atau dikot, something simple like that, or
Fisiologi
tumbuhan biasanya ada soal statistik (standar deviasi, t-test dan chi-squared test), analisa atau bikin grafik (in linear case; know that bx+a = y and how to find r and r^2) and mostly something to do with
chromatography (TLC atau kertas) atau absorbansi (misal ngukur kadar klorofil,
dsb). Since you will be required to do a lot of computing for the statistical part, we expect you to know how to operate a scientific calculator properly.
Anatomi hewan
pernah bikin apusan darah, atau membedah. Again I don’t know much about this because I never had one myself.
Fisiologi
Etologi hewan hampir pasti nonton video, lalu suruh jawab pertanyaan singkat mengenai perilaku
Dikaitkan
dengan etologi mungkin pengaruh lingkungan terhadap perilaku. Also very doable!
Sistematika
menurut aku paling susah! Untuk hewan, coba pelajari terutama arthropoda
seperti serangga, soalnya di IBO sendiri susah pakai vertebrata kecuali punya
legit reason to use it, sehingga akhirnya kebanyakan soal pakainya
invertebrata.
kekerabatan (kladogram, dendogram, metode UPGMA) (IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS,
GOOGLE IT!)
Terakhir yang
mau aku pesankan mungkin bisa di-relate
ke semua orang ya, ga cuman bidang biologi. Sedikit nasehat:
1. Berhenti mengeluh. Mulai Bekerja
mengeluh. Stop whine like a lil’ 81tch! (I’m so sorry for my rude words, force
of habit being in the US). Jujur saja, kalau belajar saja malas, mending tidak
usah ikut OSK saja dari awal. Stop complaining about your situation, cause no
one gives a damn about it! Instead of 81tching around saying how unfortunate
you are, devote more time into studying. Cause in the end, if you really do
want it, anything is possible. Tuhan itu selalu melihat kok, tenang saja. You
will reap what you sow.
2. Be proactive
Well, let me tell you something, I also don’t have the
luxury like most “city” people did. Everything I achieved was all through my
own sweat and tears. Pertama kali ikut OSN SMA, aku tidak tahu apa-apa. Aku
Heck, I didn’t even have a school teacher to educate me or Olympiad alumns to
tell me what to do. I literally had no idea on how to prepare. I was stupid to
begin with but I didn’t give up. I won’t let such pitiful things hinder my
success. So I did my own research. I reached out to other schools who had sent
their students to this Olympiad. I contacted my diknas provinsi. And though it
may not be much, at least I tried to figure things out myself instead of being
helpless all the time. In the end, all of my effort was fruitful, and if I can
do it, so can you.
3. DREAM BIG!
Selama 4 tahun mengikuti OSN, I always find someone with this
medali kok;” even before competing. Well, f**k you! (Sorry again for my rude
manner, I still can’t resist not typing it up). Buat apa coba kamu lolos
jauh-jauh sampai nasional, tapi begitu di nasional, belom mulai lomba saja
sudah menyerah. Has it ever crossed your mind that you being in the national
means that you are taking a spot away from your other friends who may have
dreamt of winning OSN their entire life? Menurut aku ya, it’s both wrong and
disrespectful to your fellow competitors to not be giving your all. OSN itu
ajang “lomba”, bukan hanya untuk jalan-jalan. At least, try your best and aim big! Don’t ever be afraid to take chances and strive for what you dream for. You never
know where your dream might lead you (Trust me, it will take you to bigger
stages in life!) Quoting from a pretty good song that I kept listening to, “If
your dreams don’t scare you, they ain’t big enough!*”
4. Doa
Mungkin
sebagai orang Indonesia, kebanyakan orang, by
default, punya agama. Punya kepercayaan terhadap seorang pencipta, apapun
itu agamanya. Well, I’m not trying to be a preacher or anything, but please keep
that with you and never stop praying. I personally find my prayer to be the
most calming experience I have after a tiring day. Through my prayers, I reflect
on things I’ve done and things I am striving to. Also, know that sometimes, it
is just best to just leave the rest to the hands of the Creator and let Him
decide it for you. Whatever the outcome, no matter how good or bad you think it
is, just believe that everything is already meant to be. Believe in His will, and
know that He will always take you on the best path possible.
Well, I guess that is it for this topic. I certainly could’ve
wrote more about it, but I don’t think anyone wants to read it if I did. I hope
you had a fun time reading it (I seriously doubt it, though) and was able to get
something out of it. Cheers and go Surprise Yourself!*
